Many insurance companies will cover your new vehicle at the same level as your current vehicle for 30 days after purchase without requiring any paperwork. Except when they don’t.

As an insurance agent, my uncle deals with this regularly. His company doesn’t cover exotics and most of his customers don’t know that. One of his clients bought a Ferrari, drove it to Vegas over the weekend, then was shocked to find out that his insurance didn’t cover his new car. Fortunately, nothing bad happened and my uncle was able to get his client coverage under one of his other insurance lines.

That was the incident that prompted my uncle to establish relationships with the local dealers. If any of his clients show up at the dealership, the sales guys try to make sure they call their agent before signing any paperwork. If their insurance doesn’t cover their new car, the sales guys give them my uncle’s card. I’m not sure how much new business he’s drummed up this way, but it must be good.
